Cheers to Belgian Beers is back for its 12th year in 2018. The Belgian-style Beer Festival will feature a single yeast strain, with which brewers will brew a unique Belgian Style beer. This year the yeast strain is Precious and Suburban Brett. In order to demonstrate the diversity the yeast strain, as well as show off the creativity of Oregon Craft Brewers, the color and strength of each brewer’s beer is determined by a dart throw. When Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers started in 2007, it was to help introduce Oregonians to the breadth of style and flavors of beers brewed in Belgium. The 2017 Cheers to Belgian Beers featured 77 beers from 75 brewing companies.
For the eighth year in a row, the festivities will be at the North Warehouse, 723 N. Tillamook Street in Portland. The outside area will be tented and food from Urban German Grill and likely Monk’s Deli will be available on both days. Brewed Oregon will be selling merchandise inside the North Warehouse.
The festival is donating $1 from every ticket package sold to House That Beer Built, a partnership between Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East and the local craft beer industry. This exciting new collaboration celebrates the strength and creativity of Oregon’s craft beer industry, along with its passion for community involvement. Participating breweries and businesses pledge to raise funds with the goal of collectively raising $75,000 to fully sponsor a home for a Portland family.

The Annual Cheers to Belgian Beers Dart Throw, which determines the color and strength of beer that each brewery will make for the event, was held at Gigantic Brewing and Baerlic Brewing in SE Portland on two days on 2018.
The classic choice for a Belgian IPA. Precious has a very mild phenolic character balanced with moderate fruitiness. Often used for primary and then finished with a secondary Brettanomyces yeast. Temp: 65-73 // Flocculation: Medium.
Suburban Brett is Brettanomyces yeast that works great as a secondary aging strain. It really shines when used in wood barrels and will produce complex and balanced aromas of sour cherry and dried fruit. It can also be used for as a primary strain for brett only beers.
Temp: 64-74F, 18-23C // Flocculation: Low // Attenuation: 75-80%
