WIDMER BRRRBON ’14 PARTY
White Owl Social Club
1305 SE 8th
Hello lovers of the craft! White Owl Social Club is proud and excited to once again host the release party for the yearly BRRRBON! The celebrated winter release is back, and in very VERY small quantities this year, due to Widmer’s high velocity “30 for 30” campaign. No bottles have been produced, so if you want it, come get it at one of Portland’s most cozy environments, and settle in next to the patio fire raging at full blast!
For those who don’t know, BRRR is Widmer’s annual Winter ale, and every year they take a small batch and age it in bourbon barrels for extra tasting pleasure. Most years, however, Widmer blends the raw aged batch with a little of the regular BRRR to cool it down a notch. But not this year! According to Widmer, for the 2014 BRRRBON, “100% of this beer was aged in barrels, it was not blended with non-barrel aged beer like our previous vintages.” That’s right folks, what you get is the raw product, 100% pure flavor country clocking in at a red hot 13% ABV after sitting in bourbon barrels for a cool 16 months!
Need I say more? Well, I will. Widmer brewers will also be on hand to drink the good stuff and talk the good word. We’ll be tapping a few more Widmer flavors as well, such as the Hop Jack (2001 re-issue, from the 30 f0r 30 campaign), Big Ben Porter (1996 re-issue, from the 30 f0r 30 campaign), and of course the impressively competitive Upheaval IPA.
So come on down this Friday and get it done in 2014, possibly your only chance to taste the raw BRRRBON alongside some tasty White Owl menu treats and a hot patio fire.

COMMONS/UPRIGHT RECIPE EXCHANGE
1004 N. Killingsworth St
What happens when two world-class breweries admire each others work from across town? A budding bromance. And how did they choose to act on their feelings? With a good old fashioned recipe exchange! The Commons and Upright have swapped recipes for their flagship brews and we get to taste the final results! The Commons brewed their interpretation of Upright’s “Four”, a wheat based table saison and Upright brewed The Commons “Urban Farmhouse”, a simple, refreshing farmhouse ale.
When we asked Josh Grgas of The Commons on what initially sparked the idea of an exchange, he replied, “These beers should be a showcase of how fermentor shape plays a role in flavor development. Our house yeast will likely behave differently in Upright’s open fermentors, giving the Upright version of “Urban Farmhouse” a slightly different flavor profile. Similarly, Upright’s house yeast will give the Commons “Four” a different profile due to our closed, cylindrical-conical fermenters. We’re really excited to taste the similarities and differences.”
We’ll be tapping both tribute versions alongside the originals so you can compare and contrast. Be forewarned: the brewers and their crews will be in attendance so it might get a little huggy in here.
